Applying for a Birth Certificate for the first time

General Information:

**Before getting the required forms to issue a birth certificate, make sure the parents’ National IDs or Passports are valid.

**Birth Certificates are issued in Cairo, Egypt, and takes a minimum of 2 months to receive it at the Consulate.

**Laws and regulations in Egypt do not allow the use of combined names and therefore – in case of combined names – parents are to choose in writing which name they would choose for the Egyptian birth certificate.

**Those who reached the age of 21 years and do not have any papers and want to extract an Egyptian birth certificate must obtain a certificate to prove their right to the Egyptian citizenship by presenting the following documents
Photocopy of the following:

  • National ID card or valid Egyptian passport for both parents.
  • Egyptian marriage certificate.
  • British birth certificate with certified translation.
  • Applicant passport.

 

Requirements for applying for a Birth Certificate:

  • Original UK Birth Certificate endorsed by the Apostille of FCDO (Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office), and then by the Consulate General (fees 47£).
  • Original & valid parents’ Egyptian passports or Egyptian National ID card for Egyptians or  Original & valid Foreign passports for Foreigners (at least one of the parents must be an Egyptian).
  • Original Egyptian Marriage certificate legalized by the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs or an Original British Marriage Certificate legalized by the British Office FCDO.
  • Filling out the required forms at the consulate.
  • Fees to be paid in cash or postal order (payable to the Consulate General of Egypt). The fees as follows:
    • 26 GBP when applying during the first 90 days after birth.
    • 46 GBP when applying after 90 days from birth and before a calendar year passes.
    • 50 GBP when applying after one calendar year of birth.

Applying for a Copy of A Previously Issued Birth Certificate

General Information:

**Birth Certificates are issued in Cairo, Egypt, and takes a minimum of 2 months to receive it at the Consulate.

Requirements for applying for a Birth Certificate:

  • Full personal information of the person (full name, date/place of birth).
  • Original & valid Egyptian national ID or passport of the applicant (if the applicant is 21 years old) or  Original & valid Egyptian national ID or passport of next of kin relatives who are applying,
  • Preferably a copy of the required birth certificate.
  • Filling out the required forms at the consulate.
  • Fee is 14 GBP.
  • Fee to be paid in cash or postal order (payable to the Consulate General of Egypt).
