Applying for a Death Certificate for the first time

General Information:

**Death Certificates are issued in Cairo, Egypt, and takes a minimum of 2 months to receive it at the Consulate.

Requirements for applying for a Birth Certificate:

  • Original UK Death Certificate endorsed by the Apostille of FCDO (Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office)
  • Original & valid Egyptian national ID or passport of the deceased person.
  • Original & valid photo ID of the informant.
  • Filling out the required forms at the consulate.
  • Fees to be paid by card or postal order (payable to the Consulate General of Egypt). The fees as follows:
    • 20 GBP when applying during the first 90 days after birth.
    • 40 GBP when applying after 90 days from birth and before a calendar year passes.
    • 45 GBP when applying after one calendar year of birth.

Applying for a Copy of A Previously Issued Death Certificate

General Information:

**Death Certificates are issued in Cairo, Egypt, and takes a minimum of 2 months to receive it at the Consulate.

Requirements for applying for a Birth Certificate:

  • Full personal information of the deceased person ( full name, date/place of birth, date/place of death).
  • Original & valid Egyptian national ID or passport of the applicant provided that they are next of kin relatives.
  • Preferably a copy of the required death certificate.
  • Filling out the required forms at the consulate.
  • Fee is 14 GBP.
  • Fee to be paid card or postal order (payable to the Consulate General of Egypt).

Procedures for transporting the corps to Egypt

First: The process of shipping the body to Egypt requires the Consulate General to be provided with the following:

  • Original British death certificate.
  • Original Egyptian passport and/or national ID card of the deceased.
  • Original passport or proof of identity of the person who reported the death.
  • Name and phone number of those who will receive the body at the airport in Egypt.
  • Permission from the British authorities to ship the body outside the United Kingdom (Out of England).

Second: For its part, the Consulate General shall:

  • Stamp the British death certificate.
  • Issue a certificate from the Consulate General (free of charge) that serves as a permit for the body to enter Egyptian airports, as well as a permit to bury the body in Egypt.
  • Cancel the passport of the deceased and re-hand it over to his family along with the rest of the documents referred to above.
  • Attend the corps at the Consulate General so that the competent employee verify the deceased, and seal the coffin with red wax.
  • Inform the consular sector of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with all the related information of the deceased, as well as the date of arrival of the body, and the name and telephone number of the person who will receive the body in Egypt.
  • The Consulate General ends all its procedures in a fast and swift way, without adhering to working hours, and during weekends and public holidays.

Thirdly:

  • The family of the deceased or his companions assigns a funeral home to prepare the corps for travel outside the United Kingdom; carry out all the procedures in preparation for shipment; following up on the issuance of the death certificate and the travel permit outside the United Kingdom (Out of England); providing the Consulate General with those documents; transporting the corps on the scheduled date to the headquarters of the Consulate General to seal the coffin with red wax and provide the family of the deceased with the aforementioned documents.
