Legalisation of Documents Issued in the United Kingdom
First: Legalizing Personal Documents
The fee is £47 per legalization, applicable for:
- Legalizing Egyptian documents already certified by the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
- Legalizing signatures for banking transactions, share purchases, or company dealings, once notarized and then Apostilled by the FCDO.
- Legalizing documents issued by domestic entities, once apostilled by the FCDO, provided they comply with Egyptian laws. For more on FCDO apostille, visit: https://www.gov.uk/get-document-legalised.
- Legalizing educational certificates and enrolment letters from UK institutions, provided they are certified by the Egyptian Cultural Office (contact: legalisation@uk.cdm.edu.eg). Responses from schools may take 1–30 days.
- Legalizing employment or experience certificates, once notarized by a Notary Public and apostilled by the FCDO. Notarization must explicitly verify the document’s authenticity. The consulate does not accept mere “certified copies of original”.
- Legalizing translations or copies of documents after apostilling both the original and the copy by the FCDO.
- Composite notarized documents must be individually apostilled by the FCDO and then separately by the Consulate General.
- Legalization of marriage and divorce contracts issued by any Islamic centre: One party has to be Egyptian, and an Egyptian party has to come in person to legalize the contract. Second: Legalizing Commercial Documents
The fee is £125 per legalization for:
- Legalizing commercial contracts and trade-related documents apostilled by the FCDO.
- Legalizing certificates of origin, commercial invoices, and trade documents, after their certification by the Egyptian British Chamber of Commerce.
Submission and Collection
- submissions: 10:00 AM–1:30 PM; Collection: 2:30 PM–3:30 PM.
- Some documents may require up to three working days for processing.
Legalizations by Post
- Documents can be sent by post FOR THE ATTENTION OF THE LEGALISATION SECTION taken into consideration the following conditions are fulfilled:
- The document has already been apostilled by the Foreign & Commonwealth Office FCDO.
- The EXACT amount of fees should be sent by Postal Orders made payable to “The Egyptian Consulate General” (CHEQUES ARE NOT ACCEPTED).
- A self-addressed return envelope should be enclosed bearing the name and full address of the sender written clearly in BLOCK CAPITAL letters – with sufficient stamps.
- Documents should be sent by Registered or Recorded Delivery (NOT by regular post).
